Aaron Anstett
Named Pikes Peak Poet Laureate

Backwaters Press author and winner of the Nebraska Book Award for 2006, Aaron Anstett has been named Poet Laureate of the Pikes Peak region for the 2008-2010 terms.

"This distinction is a real call to action,” Anstett told the Colorado Springs Gazette. "As Walt Whitman wrote: In order to have great poets, we must have great audiences. I am thrilled to play a small part in developing that audience in the Pikes Peak region."

Backwaters Press author Matt Mason's Things We Don't Know We Don't Know has been awarded both The Nebraska Book Award for Poetry 2007 and The Nebraska Book Award for Cover Design 2007.

Named Milwaukee's Poet Laureate

Backwaters Press author Susan Firer has been named Milwaukee's Poet Laureate for the 2008-2010 terms.

"Susan Firer has been and continues to be one of Milwaukee's premier poets and authors," said Milwaukee Public Library Director Paula Kiely. "But her wit, wisdom and unique take on life transcend geographical boundaries. Susan's works truly touch all of us, no matter where we are or who we are."
